Robin L.,

Every day I'm surrounded by incredible women tirelessly working to pave the way for a better future for my daughters and young women growing up today.

I am thankful to all the female activists and representatives and the mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters working to make sure the women of future generations receive better and more equal opportunities.

I am also inspired by the thousands of women who ran for office in 2018. This year marks the first time more than 100 women serve in the House of Representatives, and the sole reason for hope on countless progressive issues in the House is because of the dozens of Democratic women who took over Republican seats. I'm proud to work alongside the women of the 116th Congress, including my fellow Connecticut Representatives Jahana Hayes and Rosa DeLauro, and I'm further inspired by those women making the decision to run for office to make a difference in their communities this year and next.

We celebrated International Women's Day last week, but let's remember it is not just a day. Women's History Month isn't just a month. These initiatives are our mission, and we must lead on them every single day.

This year's #IWD2019's theme was Balance for Better. We have to lead the charge to achieve a balanced workplace, equal pay for equal work, paid family leave and access to health care and reproductive rights.

We have a long way to go, and I'm committed to fighting for women's rights and gender equality. America's future depends on all of us keeping up this fight.

Jim
