Sympathies, thoughts, and prayers are not enough

Six years ago, a horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary shook Connecticut and America to its core.

Not a day goes by that I don't think back on the lives lost. Each time I do, my heart breaks anew.

Our community will never fully heal. Sympathies, thoughts, and prayers are not enough. Each family member touched by this tragedy will carry a terrible burden with them as long as they live.

One thing that can help: real solutions to gun violence. Not more talk.

The families in Newtown, and every family devastated by gun violence deserve serious solutions from their Congress, not platitudes and empty gestures.

Now that Democrats have taken back the House, it's time to address gun violence starting on day one.

Tell Congress: it's time for real gun violence reform.
