[Petition] No endless war

17 years ago, America was attacked. In the wake of September 11, 2001, Congress authorized military force against the terrorists who attacked us and those who harbor them. American troops were deployed to Afghanistan.

Today, Donald Trump is using that same military authorization as a blank check for endless war – sending our troops anywhere at his discretion, without additional Congressional oversight.

17 years ago, we authorized the President to take America to war against a specific threat. Today, that authorization is being stretched to drag America into conflicts far and wide.

Sign my petition: tell Congress it's time to pass a new Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) with strict timelines and a narrow scope focused on America's actual enemies.

Congress must reassert its authority to declare war. Sending men and women into battle should be hard. That power was given to Congress so that the public can weigh in on that decision.

My plan makes Congress do its job. If this or any future president wants to go to war against new groups or in new countries, Congress needs to approve it beforehand. And the authorization is limited to three years at a time, because no war should be on autopilot.

It's time to turn the page on endless, ever-expanding war.

Sign my petition: tell Congress to end the President's blank check on endless war.
