One week. One train ride. One critical opportunity.

I ride the train to Washington, D.C. to do my job in Congress. It takes a while, but I love it.

Houses and trees, cars and the coast are a blur. I can grind through some work, chat with other commuters, or just sit and admire the country I know and love.

Life moves fast. I always try to take a few minutes to reflect on where we've come from and where we're going.

Lately, however, I find that I want the train to get to Washington as quickly as possible. Because I'm as fired up as I've ever been to get to work and do my job.

I see President Trump demeaning the presidency by imitating undemocratic strongmen.

I see an enabling special-interest class that is happy to trample democratic norms to get what they want.

I see hardworking people and families whose livelihoods are imperiled by nasty political games, people begging us to come together before things get worse.

I am running for re-election because, at this moment in history, our democracy is in trouble.

We need mature leadership. We need people willing to strategize, organize, and mend broken fences.

Each day I serve is an opportunity to do the job that Democrats from my home 4th district sent me to Congress to do. This is a tremendous responsibility – one I take seriously.

To gear up for the upcoming Democratic Party convention, I've set a goal of getting 200 donors to chip in this week. I want you with me. Donate today.

Thank you so much for your support.
