Preserving the Planet for Future Generations

As the father of two young girls, I think every day about the kind of planet we will leave for future generations.

Through efforts large and small, we’ve made substantial progress in protecting our environment, but much work remains.

Transition to a Safe Clean Energy Future

The recent, disastrous oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico serves as a stark reminder of the ecological and economic dangers inherent in our continued reliance on fossil fuels. Making the transition toward a safe clean energy future is an urgent priority.

That’s why I helped pass legislation to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and lower energy costs – to spur development of solar, wind and alternative fuels, and invest in a smart electrical grid.

Conservation and Environmental Protection

I led the effort to secure support for Long Island Sound conservation programs, including clean river and harbor projects in Stamford, Norwalk and Greenwich.  Last year, I helped pass the Public Land Management Act, the most significant conservation bill in 15 years, protecting more than 2 million new acres of wilderness and parks.

Whether through a beach clean up, buying an energy efficient appliance, carpooling or using public transportation, we can all do our part to improve the environment. I have been proud to partner with organizations like Environment Connecticut, Save the Sound, and the League of Conservation Voters to champion strong protections for our environment.  And I look forward to continuing our work together to promote sustainable development, preserve our natural resources, and build a clean energy future.
