Diane Farrell Enthusiastically Endorses Jim Himes

STAMFORD, CT - On Sunday, May 4, Democratic congressional candidate Jim Himes was warmly endorsed by former Westport First Selectwoman and two-time Democratic nominee Diane Farrell.
Farrell described Himes as a man "with his finger on the pulse of the needs of families" who "understands the needs of the district." Noting Himes' involvement at the local level, as well as his support of her own runs for congress, Farrell praised Himes' "important work for families in this area."
Farrell added, "Jim Himes will be a superb member of Congress. I enthusiastically stand in support of Jim."
"It's a huge honor for me to get Diane's endorsement for this race," said Himes, who was joined by his wife, Mary, and two daughters, Emma, 8, and Linley, 5.
Himes explained that the election is a critical one for struggling families.
"Middle class families are hanging on by their fingernails," said Himes, who added, "Chris Shays has failed to provide needed oversight of the economy, and he has consistently supported George Bush's failed economic policies."
"In America, if you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to get ahead," said Himes.
Himes, 41, is himself an example of middle class success. Raised by a single mother on a middle class salary, he became a Rhodes scholar and, later, a vice president at Goldman Sachs before leaving Wall Street six years ago to run the New York office of a national nonprofit housing agency.
In response to questions from reporters, about how Himes' run will be different from her own, Farrell said Himes will succeed because Shays' continued support for Bush's economic policies "will give voters pause."
"Jim has a perspective that is extremely important," she said, "I think the story of this campaign is Jim's qualifications and the closeness of the last two races indicate that voters have looked closely at Shays' record."
The standing room only event took place at the Stamford Government Center. Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy, who introduced Farrell, described Himes as "a power to be reckoned with."
On May 12th, Jim Himes will be officially nominated for Congress at the Fourth Congressional District Nominating Convention at the Cesar A. Batalla School (606 Howard Avenue, Bridgeport, CT).
