Dems Continue Voter Registration Surge Post-Primary

From the Connecticut Secretary of State's office (via Genghis at Connecticut Local Politics) comes a press release today touting an amazing continued increase in Democratic voter registration throughout the state that has come after the 2/5 primary:

“There is an incredible renewed sense of enthusiasm and interest in the political process,” said Bysiewicz. “The surge in voter registration we experienced before the February 5th primary has continued through March. This is great news as we head toward our goal of two million active registered voters for the 2008 presidential election.”

Currently, there are 1,941,035 registered voters in Connecticut. Among newly registered voters nearly 9,000 Democrats and 2,600 Republicans registered to vote. Additionally, more than 8,000 unaffiliated voters registered. Of the nearly 20,000 newly registered voters, more than 4,500 are between the ages of 18 and 29. Since February 5th, among newly registered younger voters, Democratic registration has outpaced Republican registration: 2,311 to 469.

That's a Democratic registration advantage of over 3-to-1 among all new voters and 5-to-1 among new young voters one since 2/5.

The largest regional net shift from Republican to Democratic registration between 2005 and 2007 occurred in Fairfield County.  Not so good for a certain incumbent.

The numbers speak volumes!  Voters, listen up!

The big thing is to make sure the younger voters get out there to vote, or if they aren’t going to be in CT due to being away at college, *absentee ballots* are going to be key!!  Very very important!  I did the absentee ballot thing when I was away at school (seems eons ago!) and I didn’t wait until the fall to deal with it...I just went to town hall here in Ffld in August to fill out an application, and it was mailed to me when the time came.
